Ruapehu is a wonderful year round destination with some of the Southern Hemisphere’s best skiing and snowboarding in Winter/Spring and some of New Zealand’s best hiking, biking and river based activities in Summer/Autumn.
Ruapehu is home to two world class National Parks; Whanganui and the UNESCO Dual World Heritage Tongariro. Whanganui is home to the many river based activities such as jet boat tours as well as many kayak adventures from 1 – 5 days. Ruapehu has New Zealand’s two largest ski areas, along with the world renowned Tongariro Alpine Crossing, widely recognised as New Zealand’s “best one day walk”.
Bike tourism is also big business with The “Mountains to Seas” and “Timber Trail” cycle trails now completed and open for business.
Set on the shores of Australasia’s largest lake, Taupo, Turangi, Tongariro and Mangakino - which makes up the Great Lake Taupo region, is right in the heart of New Zealand’s North Island. The region is truly blessed with world-class natural attractions: the lake, volcanic wonderlands, silica terraces, dual World Heritage Tongariro National Park and the famous Huka Falls. Catching a wild trout, swimming in a crystal clear lake, skiing on a volcano or walking in native bush – this is the essence of Great Lake Taupo.
There are plenty of MANZ members in this region – use the search boxes below to find them.
