Auckland combines big city sophistication with a magnificent natural playground for a truly unique experience. There’s so much to do all within a short distance from the city centre - in no time you can go from the buzzing shops and restaurants downtown to hiking through lush native bush or relaxing in rolling wine country.
Make sure you get out on the water, whether it’s a relaxing harbour cruise, kayaking, a fishing charter, whale and dolphin spotting or even sailing on an ex-America’s Cup racing yacht. Visit one of the many islands dotting the sparkling Hauraki Gulf – walk up Rangitoto Island’s iconic volcanic cone for amazing views, visit the wildlife sanctuary at Tiritiri Matangi or explore Waiheke Island’s world-class wineries and beautiful beaches.
Head up the Sky Tower, the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere, for incredible 360-degree views across the city - the brave can even ‘SkyJump’ off it or ‘SkyWalk’ around its exterior on a narrow walkway. For more action and adventure, there’s bridge climbing, bungy jumping, jetboating, skydiving, mountain biking and even canyoning.
Pick up designer fashions and Kiwi art in one of the many shopping hubs, visit the Auckland Museum or Auckland Art Gallery for a culture fix, and discover the wide range of restaurants, cafés and bars that reflect the city’s melting pot of cultures. From fresh fish and chips at the Auckland Fish Market to fine cuisine at one of the many harbourside eateries, there’s plenty to choose from.
